Qualifications in Wedding Photography

I recently attended Focus, the biggest trade show in the UK with a view to submitting my wedding work for qualification. You have to submit twenty prints, which include ten prints from one wedding and the other ten from various weddings for assessment.

Candidates submit twenty pieces of work which are assessed by a panel of judges from the Professional Photographic Qualifying Board (PPQB). The PPQB is a joint initiative between the BIPP (British Institute of Professional Photographers) and MPA (Master Photographers Association). Fellows of both organisations judge the qualifications to maintain uniformity of standards.

It was a nerve wracking few hours as I left my panel with the board and had to return later to find out my fate. I could have fallen on the floor when I was invited in to the viewing area and told that I had qualified to LBIPP, Licentiate with the British Insitute of Professional Photographers.

This is something that I'd been meaning to do for some time and recommend that all wedding photographers should do the same. It is a rewarding experience and shows to your customers the commitment that they expect.

One final note, I could not have done this without the support of my friend and mentor Paul R G Haley, thanks Paul I owe you a bottle of red.

For those that are interested my panel can be found here.
